The black filled dots denote the hydrophobic amino acid and the red open circles denote the hydrophilic amino acids. The H-H contacts (free energy) in the conformation are assigned the energy value of -1. The free energy is defined as a minimum value; the maximum number of H-H contact is given in the case of two-dimensional models, Figure 2 illustrates a protein structure with 15 H-H contacts (energy= -15).
