The peaks with asterisks were detectable in the digest of spot b1, but not spot a. Lower panels show the MS spectra of the fractions eluted at 13.2 min and 17.5 min, and the amino acid sequences determined by LC-ESI-MS/MS. This parental ion was the b9 ion with a loss of a hydroxyl (-OH) group. The gain of the detector was modulated as indicated (× 2 or × 20 amplification) to optimize data acquisition.
